How it works?

What is this hackathon you speak of?

The DeveloperWeek Hackathon is a 43-hour app-building contest in downtown San Francisco from Friday February 1st until Sunday February 3rd - and is also the official kick-off of DeveloperWeek 2013! The purpose of the hackathon is to give developers, designers, and entrepreneurs the chance to pitch app ideas - form teams - build a prototype of their app - and present to our hackathon judges for a chance to be one of the top 5 hackathon winners who get "incubated" during DeveloperWeek.

The DeveloperWeek hackathon is unlike any other SF hackathon because the top 5 hackathon winners will get 4 days of coaching, 4 days of legal and design services, and free tech tools to help 'incubate' their app into a viable startup company by the last day of DeveloperWeek. These 5 hackathon winners then compete again on-stage on Wednesday, February 6th of DeveloperWeek so our community can help launch your startup!

Recommended platform:

dotCloud is a multi-lingual Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider that makes it outrageously easy to deploy and scale your web apps. We offer a free sandbox where you can deploy an unlimited number of applications. To get started, just list the different components of your stack and push your code. In a few seconds, your app is up and running. Our platform takes care of load-balancing, master-slave replication and failover. You just focus on your code.

StackMob is the industry's premiere, cloud-based mobile platform that helps developers create a mobile business by letting them easily build, deploy and grow full-featured applications right from the start. StackMob features frontend HTML5 and robust backend services that cut development time more than 50% so developers can focus on creating high caliber apps with quality user experiences. With StackMob, developers no longer need to compromise the quality of their application development and can offload their deployment and scaling challenges using a robust, scalable and secure platform.

How do I get involved?

Here are the hackathon rules:

1- You can prepare wireframes, outlines, or notes but you cannot start any of your design or development until Friday February 1st at 6 PM!

2- Teams must consist of at least 1 person but at max 5 people

3- Your team and your app will be judged based on 4 criteria: 1) Are you solving a real problem in an interesting way? 2) How well did you present? 3) How well did you demonstrate your application functionality / prototype? 4) How innovative is your use of 3rd party API's?

4- If you build using a sponsor's technology then you are also eligible for the sponsor prize!
